Czech music scene sucks. Last interesting performer who had some talent was Antonin Dvorak who died billions of years ago. After that, the communists seized country and degenerated listeners taste for forty years with their russian-friendly music. Consequence is that we are now simply satisfied to go to watch fucking musicals with crapy pop singers, listening Bono, Jagger and other groups of walking undeads, without any interest to discover or create anything “progressive”. The most progressive genre what you can get in Czech is indie rock at the most, but even the best of them are qualitatively comparable to an afternoon jamming of three retarded fifteen years old british students.

The end of the nineties brought some promises, primarily in terms of electronic music (Escon Waldes, Juanita Juarez, EOST, Khoiba), but all good projects either finished or people behind them just went crazy (formerly great Muchow now composes music for cheesy TV series,Sunshine became a successful copy of copy of copy of copy of copy of Bloc Party)

So and now try to imagine, how proud we are to have band like WWW, which is anything but a conventional. Because I have no idea how to describe them, I took next few lines from last.fm: WWW aka We Want Words was formed in 90′, however their first proper release, Neurobeat, was out in 2006.Lubomír Typlt’s surrealist poems rapped and recited by the vocalist Ondřej Anděra (aka Sifon) in synergy with Anděra’s rather hard industrial music sampled from various field recordings amalgamate into a ponderous existential experience with a very characteristic dark sound.

Their second album, today posted Tanec sekyr (Dance of axes) is the direct successor of Neurobeat. WWW’s eased off a bit of aggression and sampled layers and made a tiny step from abstract hip-hop towards a progressive, experimental, electronic music, which is still dominated by an incredible recitation of singer Sifon.

For foreigners who do not speak Czech is the biggest stumbling block lyrics, which are, paradoxically, the greatest weapon of this band. But even if you don’t understand it’s still definitely worth trying out, because this is without a doubt the best Czech record of all time (it doesn’t sounds like compliment at all), which can withstands in comparasion with the best abstract hip-hop record’s.

Základ Fujaka, těžko zařaditelného hip-hopového tělesa z Portugalska tvoří Jonathan Uliel Saldanha a Nyko Esterle. Ten první je portugalec, říká si HHY a je členem Soopa a Mécanosphére collective. Ten druhej je francouz, říká si Ripit a je členem Radon collective.

Ten první je multi-instrumentalista, zažraný do hip-hopu, tribalu a world music, spolupracoval například s Markem Stewartem nebo Damo Suzuki.Má tolik aliasů a rozjetých projektů, že by to neuprodukoval ani Jirka Pomeje.

Ten druhej, momentálně žijící v Belgii, ale otlučen pařížskou elektronickou scénou má projektů o něco míň než ten první (Solar Skeleton, Extern Ykon) ale zase má asi tříkrát větší záběr; takže za poslední roky vyrukoval jak s ambientem, tak s breakcorem, hip-hopem a nebál se ani grindcoru. Spolupracoval například s Mikem Wattem nebo Steve Mackayem (The Stooges)

Tihle dva jsou tedy Fujako. Jenomže tomu pořád chyběl nějakej hlas, takže si pozvali hromadu MCs, o kterých nikdo z nás nikdy neslyšel (Cheravif, Native, Sensational). Jedinou výjimkou je Scalper, toho času frontman britské teroristické grupy Fun-da-mental nebo Larvae. Tečku za složením pak udělal turntablátor (hezké slovo) DJ Urine, muž, který opravdu selhal při výběru svého nicku.

Každopádně, jeden umí to a druhej zase tamto, poseděli v horách ve studiu a výsledkem je těžko uchopitelná zpatlanina hip-hopu (ale přesně toho hip-hopu, kterýho si nepředstavíte pod slovem hip-hop),dark ambientu, post-rocku, dubu a kdovíčeho. V těhle končinách se moc nevyznám, navíc pořád nevím, jestli teda jako ok, nebo ne, takže na bližší hodnocení dlabu. Možná kdyby ten Scalper “odzpíval” celou desku tak by to mělo větší koule. Subjektivně.

DJ Krush – Holonic

Holonic, celým názvem Holonic The Self-Megamix je placka, kterou vydal DJ Krush v roce 98 a namíchal na ní svým osobitým stylem svoje předchozí počiny, Strictly Turntablized, Krush, Meiso a Milight. Takže vlastně takový all in one. I když k tomu v názvu uvedené slovo megamix svádí, nejedná se o bezduchou mixtape. Z původních skladeb si totiž Krush bere jen to co potřebuje, rozebírá je a smíchává s novými samply a beaty (přiznávám se, že z prvních čtyř alb jsem slyšel jen dvě, takže co a jak moc je tu jinak oproti povdním nahrávkám jsem schopný posoudit jen okrajově). Celkově je nálada alba převážně temná, trip-hopové skladby se stáčí k funky polohám aby následně končily u jazzových melodií..Každopádně, pokuď s DJ Krushem začínáte, tohle berte jako skvělý intro do jeho tvorby a náhradu, pokuď se vám nechce sosat jeho první čtyři alba.

Tahle banda momentálně za svoje působiště uvádí LosAngeles,  kam se na dva roky vypařili William Ryan Fritch, John Wagner a Bud Berning, čekajíc, až se frontman a mozek kapely Sole vyblbne v přírodě, kam na dva roky utekl. Takže zatímco Sole někde šmíroval veverky, WR Fritch využil tuhle pauzu k práci na filmové hudbě, zbylí dva členové Wagner a Berning zase založily společně s Telefon Jim Jesus projekt Furious Stylz, který sice zní moc hezky, ale v budoucnu asi nikam nepovede. (každopádně 4 písničkový výsledek na netu for free)

Každopádně, jen co se Soleho přestalo bavit sbírat borůvky a pít vodu z horských pramenů a vrátil se domů, kapela se vrhla do studia a koncem roku 2009 se objevila jejich třetí placka Plastique, na kterém Sole vyjádřil frustraci ze všeho, co ho za poslední roky sralo. Však to znáte, naštvanej poeta, přírodní týpek, co se musí konfrontovat s gps navigací, dálkovejma ovladačkama, to nedělá dobře. Takže sedl, všechno to vypsal, všechnu tu blbost, kterou skrývá civilizace, zbrojení, války, ropa a bla bla a výsledek je překvapivě výborný. Výborný až tak, že Plastique byla zvolena 21 nejlepší deskou loňského roku podle Sputnik music, nemluvě o tom, že se jim podařilo ukecat i frontmana německých Notwist ke spolupráci. Celý tenhle výborný dojem z “trochu jiné hip-hopové desky” pak korunuje výborný singl Battlefields (na epíčku zremixovaný třeba Tobaccem) podpořený sympatickým videoklipem.

Goblin Glasses – Mothership 88′

• Goblin Glasses (Miko Revereza) is a beatmaker from boring suburb Fremont CA. During the post-Dilla resurgence of beat making subculture, he purchased his Boss sp 303 off Craigslist. He frequents record shopping for samples in San Francisco after classes at City College. In a conversation with Miko he once described his beats like a lens flare in the afternoon light. Similar themes of ethereal imagery is consistent throughout his work. Mothership88 is his first release, originally hand distributed as free copies in xerox paper sleeves. Currently he’s making films and making more beats out of the comfort of his bedroom.
